Colfax Signs of Change

Colfax Signs of Change

For over 35 years, I’ve called Denver home, drawn to the character embedded in its aging facades and hand-painted signs. Along Colfax Avenue—often described as the longest street in North America—these visual landmarks have long told stories of the city’s past.

Now, as large-scale construction reshapes Colfax to make way for a progressive, median-bus lane, many of these buildings are being demolished. This series documents that transition: the fading signage, the structures they cling to, and the people whose lives intersect with them, as their stories get lost in the Colorado sunset.

Through photography and painting, I aim to preserve what is being lost while acknowledging what is coming—a reimagined corridor where slow, chaotic movement forward take precedence over stillness and memory.

My 19-year-old son, Levi, is painting this series alongside me, and so far, we've only painted 10 pieces, but our goal is to complete 50 originals by January 2027! There are already some available for purchase, along with archival quality prints. Check out the products section to see others and to purchase before we take them to
